Why the album is titled 'As I
Am':
Because Alicia has grown far more straightforward in recent years. "I was
becoming a very hidden person. I would just always try to keep everything even
keeled and cool and just smooth everything over. That mask was getting very
scary. And I didn't like it".

"'Before, I felt the need to prove myself, being young and being a woman.
This time I wanted to be free. I went into the studio with no idea what would
happen. That created the best music I've written in my whole life so far. After
a 'rollercoaster' year this album ended up being somewhat of a lifesaver. If I
could tell you about this past year, we'd be here all night. Trust me, I needed
this music more than it needed me. But all that let me to this. I feel it in my
bones that this music, this time, it's all the right path".

"It's my song. I was feeling pretty low and I needed some words that would
pick me up. I started saying: Even when I'm a mess, I still put on on my vest
with anSon my chest. It reminds me of how super I am".
On 'No One':
"I hope it's a bit unexpected and something that completely surrounds you,
engulfs you and sweeps you away. I hope it makes you feel good and strong and
passionate and makes you scream the words at the top of your lungs".
On "Teenage Love Affair' song:
I've always wanted to write a song about first love, about notes passed back
and forth and the phone calls that you never wanted to hang up".
On 'As I Am' tracks:
"Each one of them has such a personal and honest story that goes along with
them. Each one of them are a piece of my heart and I'm so excited to be able to
gift wrap it and present it to you".

Facts
Within 10 hours of being serviced to radio, Alicia first single, 'No One' became
one of the fastest moving and highest charting single on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop
Songs chart. This also marks the highest first single debut for a female
artist in 2007 on the R&B Monitor's Urban Mainstream chart.
